I hope this new year is finding you all well. Six more weeks of winter, at least that’s what the groundhog says, that is fine with me. The weather has been quite nice here in Portlandia, kind of a mild winter actually. Pluto, oh Pluto, now that is not a planet anymore is getting redder and changing colors; I hope it’s not getting angry or sad to be a pseudo-planet ….and that is pretty much all I know from the outside world. I have been so busy with music lately I do not even know what day I’m living in, and all the sudden here we are, February 2010. It sounds kind of sci-fi. Can’t believe it’s been already a year since I got back here in PDX. Alright, time flies, yes.

We are really excited to play this next Thursday at one of our favorite places in Portland, The Woods. I am thrilled to play with Dolorean. I have been a huge fan of Al Jame’s band for a long time and I am honored that they wanted to play with us on our Record Release Show. Dolorean’s last album ‘You Can’t Win’ is one of my favorite records of all times and the new songs on the new record (lucky to have heard it!) are so elegant and cool I know everyone is going to have a great time with them. It should be a fun night. Also, we have a great guest: no other than my good friend, the wonderful Laura Gibson, who will sing with us some spanish words. It should be fun… and after that we just hit the road with our little spanish lullabies… eastern Oregon, then Washington then California! Please, be well.

Broderick went all over Portland this summer, with her bike, and a very wonderful idea in mind: make a compilation of songs recorded on her 4-track machine. She would bike to her friends houses, set up one microphone and people would play a song: live, rough, no tricks, no more than 4 tracks. I was honored to be part of this fun project. I played a song called “liebre” with Nicholas Marshall and Laurel Simmons singing harmonies (thanks!); live, one track. Details of the release of this compilation TBA. Heather makes amazing music, probably one of my favorites right now! and she is releasing a fantastic album on the Australian label Preservation very soon. Take a peek here.

Arch Cape is Rachel’s fun & love project and I am happy to be a little part of it. There will be a show as part of a Jealous Butchers’ Showcase for the MFNW in September…
